Have you ever found that you start one project, and that one project turns into two or three or more projects by the end? This is often especially true when it comes to home renovations. Sometimes our clients have had several improvements that they want to make to their home, but it takes one project to really get the ball rolling.
This was certainly true when it came to one particular home remodel in the gated Island Club community of St. Simon’s Island, Georgia. From the inside out, we were able to help make this house into a home for our clients.
It Started With a Small Kitchen Remodel…
We were first called in to update the kitchen. Most of the changes were small. We added a new backsplash, new granite countertops, a new hood vent and stacked stone for the fireplace. These upgrades don’t change the overall layout of the kitchen and mostly serve to improve it on a cosmetic level. However, granite countertops are an attractive feature to homebuyers that can add value if you choose to sell the home in the next few years. A new hood vent can boost the efficiency in your kitchen, and stacked stone can help the fireplace to look more elegant and attractive.
Time for a Facelift
From there, however, our clients asked us to give the exterior of the home a facelift. We moved outwards by adding new stucco siding to refresh the walls of the home and help to boost curb appeal. New windows were installed to add natural sunlight to the home as well as a more open feeling to the exterior. From there, we added a screened porch, a deck, and an outdoor shower.
Outdoor Entertaining Spaces
St. Simon’s Island is known for its beautiful weather and views, so it’s no wonder that homeowners here like to spend their time outside where they can. Screened porches allow homeowners to enjoy the beautiful weather while keeping their porch safe from bugs and elements like rain, leaves, and twigs. A new deck offers added entertainment space and makes the perfect venue for a summer party. Even outdoor showers are perfect for homeowners who have pools or play sports in the backyard.
For this Island Club home, we redid the wrap-around porch, updating it and giving it a more sound structure. We also added a screened porch for some protection from the elements. From there, we built in a new deck and a shower.
An Island Club home’s design should make the most of the scenery, as well as the homeowner’s tastes and preferences.
